Sapporo Beer, produced in an eco-friendly environment

Sapporo Breweries Ltd. is a major beer brewer in Japan. Its Hokkaido factory, completed in 1989, produces 120,000 kiloliters of Sapporo Beer per year, enough to fill 340 million cans (350 ml). For this production, it uses advanced technologies and state-of-the art facilities. Sapporo Breweries is continually seeking new sources of raw materials and developing new manufacturing methods. On the grounds of its factory, which covers 360,000 m2, you will find a visitors’ lounge, a shop, a restaurant, a garden and a “park golf” course. The factory has become a sightseeing spot.
At the Hokkaido factory of Sapporo Breweries, a natural-gas-fired co-generation system was installed under an ESCO project. For that installation, Sapporo Breweries contracted with Hitachi Ltd. and financed the work with ESCO project funds.
The factory uses electricity generated by a gas-turbine generator, steam produced by a boiler that uses the exhaust gas from a gas-turbine generator, and hot water collected after it has cooled the generators.
